Ain't No Thing But a Ring

I was looking through my jewellery box searching for new things to wear. in general i keep things on my neck, wrist, and finger on a minimum. only because i don't want to get a whole bunch of junk jewellery, i'd rather have some nicer things. but costume jewellery is also good. i've found a half way point. me likes Kenneth Jay Lane ALOT and i can't figure out which one i love the most. MaxandChloe has a really good selection which makes it even more difficult to choose. may the best ring win.

I'm Grace Jonesin'

This is my Grace Jones inspired collage. it needs more aerodynamic things with pointy spikes but it will do.

Grace Jones... my vintage pleasure

My good friend Tom Collins (alias) and i were having a debate yesterday on who the best James Bond female stars were. well, I didn't wait a second to say everyone's fave villainess, Grace Jones. the girl did it all (and still does). she was an actress, model, and singer. her look is absolutely bonkers. i'm listening to her best of cd right now. i love it and so would you. if you open your windows you can probably hear it in the distance. her voice is described as contralto, yet its dance party worthy. she was a huge deal in the 80's and she's still busy doing her thing. you need to go to her website, it's as unique as the icon herself.

My Hiatus Is Over

I have the afternoon to myself and a few days worth of stuff to catch up on. ihave some new CDs which are putting me in the best of moods. i'm feeling my music and the fashion icon it inspires. i'm finding some things that i want to buy and maybe you do too. i'm feeling as nice as rice.

New Celebrity Fashion Icon?

Zoe Kravitz (daughter of my fave Lisa Bonet and Mr. Kravitz) is growing up and styling out. she's the first celebrity in a long while that wows me with her outfits. she's got the smoky non-chalance of her mom with the [pop] rock looks of her dad. is she my next sevigny? please see answer below. by the way, she's been at all the spring 'o8 looking dope as ever.

she makes me want to wear my two favourite things right now.

I'm a Piner for this Designer

I was reading the new issue of Neo2 and got a little sad. the spring collections are coming out and i'm living in this frigid weather. and while i'm layering on sweater after sweater and wrapping my scarves around my neck into a chokehold, designers are beginning to sell there warm weather goods. in this issue i found my new favourite designer of the second (and more likely this will last for months). his name is Juan Mabyelcuco (an extremely talented spanish designer), but his label goes by Juanmabyelcuco. here's one of his delicious items which i wish i was wearing right now, instead of my long-sleeved shirt. please put your focus on the white-silver shorts. mmmm.... i love all things feminine.

Putting More Spring in Your Step

I've been checking out the latest nouveau collections available for our eyes by the some less familiar (or maybe not!) designers. Christian Wijnants Spring 'o8 collection is so geometrically delectable some of the keys are moist on this keyboard. this is brought to you by a 28 year old. we can all see his Dadaist influences. i love the hard lines/shapes merged such that they evolve into such delicate pieces.

Moonlight Desires

I love this top and wish it was on me right now. they sell it online at oogabooga and i'm thinking of getting it. it's made by Bless, which is straight outta Berlin. yet another thing i wish was sold somewhere here.

White Williams and Horseshoes

I went to White Williams at the HorseShoe Tavern last night. the crowd was a modest size which greatly improved my danceabilities. my friends and i agreed that even though their cd is the hotness, they sound even better live. they are fresh young bucks who are a talented bunch. the lead singer spends most of his time erradically multi-tasking between a keyboard-flute, a computer, and a mike. the guitarists are the prettiest boys strumming sweet electrical nothings out of the speakers. crown royal and i had fun and you would have too.

Crown Royal

Today is my best friend's birthday. There should be some major celebrations this weekend. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CROWN ROYAL (alias)!

Spring Sting

I've been going to all my favourite shopping websites lately (i can't deny my fiendiness for apparel) and i've found about a million and two things i would like to wear... i went onto Christian Joy's page and saw her new collection. i wish there was a store in this city that carried her amazing designs but alas i only get to peruse them on the internet. here's a sample of some of her new Spring '08 collection... can't wait to have one of these pieces. of course Karen O as always makes everything look so delicious. can she ever look bad? answer: unlikely.

My Buddy and Kid Sister

Last night i went with the roomie and the best friend to see Kid Sister and Jokers of the Scene at this bar. my legs still feel like jello. she was a whole lot of high energy fun which created a catalyst for the dance party that my feet were hoping for. the good people at Take More Photos have posted some pics of the event.

Mag Hag

While everyone else is loving their magazines, i'm loving Neo2. Neo2 has been my must have hard copy magazine for years now. it's a spanish magazine that puts everyone in southern europe (and maybe me and a few other north americans) in the know about fashion, design (all fronts), music, books, and the art scene in spain. First and foremost, the fashion spreads that come out of this magazine are visual fireworks. They feature many designers who will probably only be on the fashion radar on this side of the globe in 1 or 2 years. They're design section is a confetti display of all the new concept work coming out all over the world. They also focus on art gallery openings and the artists works. They give us their perspectives on the indie bands we're listening to now. The sexiest part of the mag is that it's only printed in spanish (used to have a complete english translation section but that's been long abandoned). I've recently discovered as well that with each hard copy issue you receive, a code is provided to download the latest font found on their cover... Fonts make me wiggle. If you can find a diverse enough mag shop, pick up a copy, its total goodness.

ooohhh, music that makes my legs purr

After hearing some hype about it, I decided to get my hands on the new White Williams album, Smoke. My ears are thanking me today, and my body wants to buy me a diamond ring. My favourite tracks so far (from giving the album a go maybe 1 or 2 times) are Routes To Palm, Shadow and New Violence. All the songs are a blend of soft melodic fluid singing, mixed with rhythmic drum kicks, adolescent keyboarding (you know the kind - where you hit the keyboard for the first time and think you know how to play it right off the bat, and you try to create these songs with resonating electronic sounds), and 70's style electric guitaring. Their music comes off as being too cool for school and that's ok by me. I won't lie to you, their non-chalant music-ablitiies is the kind that makes me want to flirt with the group members at the bar before the show. Here's the cover of their vainglorious album... now tell me you wouldn't jot down your number on a jack daniel's stained napkin using your black charcoal eyeliner. Oh yeah, and they're coming to Toronto....I'll definitely be at that show.

the return of the lady

if you're a Vogue-obsessed fashion hound than this posting can be ignored because it's probably old news for you. when i first had the visual pleasure of seeing the photo shoot done by steven meisel for italian Vogue (december 2oo7), the part of my heart that i previously thought was just a faint heart beat fluttered out almost bursting... for the first time in a very long time. can this photo spread be any indication of what is to come for fashion in spring 2008? please tell me that in a few months i will only remember this last year in woman's fashion as a fleeting memory of oversized tunics (a.k.a. glorified moo-moos), box-cut dresses, and post-mod meanderings in androgynous fashion. please tell me that once a again we will see beautifully feminine prints, accentuated waist lines, and flattering hem-lines.
