Grace Jones... my vintage pleasure

My good friend Tom Collins (alias) and i were having a debate yesterday on who the best James Bond female stars were. well, I didn't wait a second to say everyone's fave villainess, Grace Jones. the girl did it all (and still does). she was an actress, model, and singer. her look is absolutely bonkers. i'm listening to her best of cd right now. i love it and so would you. if you open your windows you can probably hear it in the distance. her voice is described as contralto, yet its dance party worthy. she was a huge deal in the 80's and she's still busy doing her thing. you need to go to her website, it's as unique as the icon herself.

White Williams and Horseshoes

I went to White Williams at the HorseShoe Tavern last night. the crowd was a modest size which greatly improved my danceabilities. my friends and i agreed that even though their cd is the hotness, they sound even better live. they are fresh young bucks who are a talented bunch. the lead singer spends most of his time erradically multi-tasking between a keyboard-flute, a computer, and a mike. the guitarists are the prettiest boys strumming sweet electrical nothings out of the speakers. crown royal and i had fun and you would have too.

My Buddy and Kid Sister

Last night i went with the roomie and the best friend to see Kid Sister and Jokers of the Scene at this bar. my legs still feel like jello. she was a whole lot of high energy fun which created a catalyst for the dance party that my feet were hoping for. the good people at Take More Photos have posted some pics of the event.

ooohhh, music that makes my legs purr

After hearing some hype about it, I decided to get my hands on the new White Williams album, Smoke. My ears are thanking me today, and my body wants to buy me a diamond ring. My favourite tracks so far (from giving the album a go maybe 1 or 2 times) are Routes To Palm, Shadow and New Violence. All the songs are a blend of soft melodic fluid singing, mixed with rhythmic drum kicks, adolescent keyboarding (you know the kind - where you hit the keyboard for the first time and think you know how to play it right off the bat, and you try to create these songs with resonating electronic sounds), and 70's style electric guitaring. Their music comes off as being too cool for school and that's ok by me. I won't lie to you, their non-chalant music-ablitiies is the kind that makes me want to flirt with the group members at the bar before the show. Here's the cover of their vainglorious album... now tell me you wouldn't jot down your number on a jack daniel's stained napkin using your black charcoal eyeliner. Oh yeah, and they're coming to Toronto....I'll definitely be at that show.
