We've Got an Art Plot
so i was recently asked to check out this site called MyArtPlot. so i did. here is what it's all about. MyArtPlot, MAP (short) is a web page that identifies itself as a global community for artists, artisans, and craftspeople. when you first go on the page you find a few compartmentalized sections. the main item that you can delve into is the shopping section, as most other sections may not be accessible if you don't have a user login. well, online shopping is what i can do with a quick eye so that was my focus. upon first glance, you'll notice that this website must be fairly new (i couldn't find its birthday when searching) because it doesn't have the quantity of selection that maybe already unmentioned auction/community based selling sites have, but that will probably be only a temporary issue. most of the items were more esotericly based and less commercial. the main sections were Arts and of course...Crafts. there were alot of interesting items in both categories. anyway, what makes this website different from the other unmentioned buying community-based websites? well, this part i like the most, they let you review/critique items posted by members and these don't include whether the person shipped the item on time. here's a little taste of what you can find online. The first one is a necklace by artist Tilly Bloom.

I can't wait to get some new things for spring. i'm really excited about my Navajo-inspired jacket, and its made me kick-start my warm-time shopping. all in a southern american kind of way. today i've been Etsy-ed. so far i've found some super cool things. don't try to beat me to the purchase

the items above are from Turquoise Heaven. check out their stuff. its pure vintage gold.

All Country for Old Men
I watched No Country For Old Men last night. it was pretty much amazing, thanks to the like of Javier Bardem. the scenery in the movie is shot so realistically that you start to feel the hot southern heat of the Mexican/U.S. border. although spring is not here yet, i'm excited to shed my thick, long-sleeved clothes. soon, i will no longer be in hibernation. here is my ode to summer and spring.... i will see you soon darling.

So i'm off to a movie later this afternoon and back from some filling dim sum. my best friend will yell at me after he found out i bought yet another pair of jeans (too many jeans, too few tops). here's another snippet of yesterday and today's roundup of all things ny fashion week i enjoyed the most. the two images below are from Yigal Azrouel. I enjoy the almost fighter pilot themed jumper. its actually a great contrast to his more simpler dresses which feature detailed accents on the collar usually by some layering method.
below is a dress by Juan Carlos Obando. His show was more elegantly themed. most of the garments were formal long flowing gowns accented with harsher, grittier accessories. this dress is seems to be a more 60's inspired ancient Egyptian style.
below are two items from Venexiana. most of this show was heavily based on earthy browns.
i really enjoyed mara hoffman's show. its similar to many of the spring/summer '08 themes. i really like the navajo inspired ethnic prints.

Before I Eat, a little Glimpse into NY Fashion Week
The last thing it want to think about right now is winter-ness. the huge snowfall of friday made me realize that spring isn't actually here. a couple of groundhogs confirmed this. so did the shows at ny fashion week. the fall/winter collections have so far shown us the dark colours that will dominate the following year. i've noticed most of the shows featured multi-contrasting fabrics, deep earthy colours (with some exceptions). so far, the garments that were shown by the Academy of Arts University impressed me the most. it was a show that did not exceed in fluidity, likely due to the fact that each model was wearing something from a different designer. the seams on a few of the garments appear a bit crude but nevertheless the items are quite creative. here's a little taste of the Academy collection before i go enjoy some yummy dim sum.

Show Us Some Fashion New York
Today NY Fashion Week kicks off and most fashionistas on this side of the globe are excited. i have the day off from work, but instead of staying home to await all of the opening days shows, i think i going to go to Holt's to look for some things that i want to buy. i don't really shop there but i recently saw this Chloe sweater (from the See collection) that my made me feel pretty frisky. i'll be keeping tabs on what Constance White, style director of ebay, has to say. she's already posted info for the show as early as the crack of dawn this morning on her blog. on her first posting, she notified readers that there will be a lot more Menswear shows. see you in a bit.

Ain't No Thing But a Ring
I was looking through my jewellery box searching for new things to wear. in general i keep things on my neck, wrist, and finger on a minimum. only because i don't want to get a whole bunch of junk jewellery, i'd rather have some nicer things. but costume jewellery is also good. i've found a half way point. me likes Kenneth Jay Lane ALOT and i can't figure out which one i love the most. MaxandChloe has a really good selection which makes it even more difficult to choose. may the best ring win.

I'm Grace Jonesin'
Grace Jones... my vintage pleasure
My good friend Tom Collins (alias) and i were having a debate yesterday on who the best James Bond female stars were. well, I didn't wait a second to say everyone's fave villainess, Grace Jones. the girl did it all (and still does). she was an actress, model, and singer. her look is absolutely bonkers. i'm listening to her best of cd right now. i love it and so would you. if you open your windows you can probably hear it in the distance. her voice is described as contralto, yet its dance party worthy. she was a huge deal in the 80's and she's still busy doing her thing. you need to go to her website, it's as unique as the icon herself.
